Ashleigh Richmond was recently named the Director of Adult Basic Education and Job Corps Scholars at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. IHCC is one of only 20 colleges in the nation to be awarded a new 1.2-million-dollar Department of Labor grant. “It is super exciting to be able to shape a program from the ground up!” shared Ashleigh.
She has taught literature and communications classes for 11 years, including adult literacy for the last five years, and was promoted to Coordinator of Adult Literacy in August 2018.
Ashleigh’s professional and educational background includes a B.A. in English from Central College, an M.A.T. in English from the University of West Alabama, and several years of experience in public relations, recruitment, and marketing.
Ashleigh is a native Ottumwan who enjoys spending time with her husband and three children: 13, 8, and 2. Ashleigh has served as Vice President of the Ottumwa Soccer Club Board since March 2019. She is an avid reader and baker, and she loves to travel.
“Even though I grew up in Ottumwa, I learned so much about our community through O.L.A. Since graduating from O.L.A. in 2018, I have found the alumni association a great way to stay connected with local professionals from across a variety of fields.
“I’ve also learned a lot hearing first-hand leaders’ journeys during 12@12 lunches. My particular favorite, though, probably because I’m still an English teacher at heart, has been the Master Mind Group book studies. I love reading about and discussing how to continue to grow in leadership and serve my team and my community!”
