Mary Pratt joined the Ottumwa Legacy Foundation as Office Manager in 2018 and has worked in the nonprofit world for nearly 15 years. Mary graduated from Indian Hills Community College with an Associate of Arts degree and William Penn University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Resource Management.
Mary, who describes herself as introverted, wanted to join the Ottumwa Leadership Academy to build confidence in herself during public interactions and speaking engagements. “I needed that ‘extra push’ to make myself step out of my comfort zone to network and make important connections with individuals I wouldn’t otherwise have the ability to, and the Leadership Academy has provided me with those opportunities,” she said.
The Health & Human Services session has stood out to Mary as hugely impactful. “It really opened my eyes to the struggles that some individuals in our community deal with on a day-to-day basis,” she shared. “Most of us probably don’t even realize the crises going on around us. I learned that day that WE ALL are only one hardship away from food or financial insecurity. It only takes that ONE event to cause a chain reaction of bad situations.”
Mary enjoys spending time with family and traveling to new places outside of work. She and her husband reside in Oskaloosa with their four children.
