Patty Galvan-Ramos is a Rehabilitation Counselor with Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish from Central College (2005) and a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Drake University (2014).

“I joined O.L.A. because I have been part of this community since 2006 and I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to expand my network and to continue developing my leadership skills. I have the pleasure of providing services to individuals with disabilities and assist them to achieve their independence through successful employment and economic support. O.L.A. is a great way of informing community employers of a great pool of talent that is overlooked and a great way to improve my leadership skills to help others achieve their goals while I build my confidence level.”

In addition to her time in the current Ottumwa Leadership Academy class, Patty is the Vice President of the League of Latin American Citizens Council (LULAC) 377 and an advisor to the LULAC Youth Council 601. The group participates or volunteer in diverse activities and opportunities ranging from awarding student scholarships, providing COVID-19 food assistance, registering voters, to volunteering at our local food bank. LULAC is the largest and oldest Hispanic organization in the United States that focuses on education, civil rights, health, and employment for Hispanics including other underrepresented groups.

Outside of professional and volunteer commitments, you’ll find Patty traveling, dancing, reading, and going out for walks.
