Meet Current Class Member Matt Selden
Matt Selden, Lead Pastor at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Ottumwa began his ministry in August 2019. As Lead Pastor, he oversees preaching/teaching, is involved with all age-level programs, and casts a vision for Trinity Church’s ministry to the community of Ottumwa. He completed his undergraduate work at MidAmerica Nazarene University and recently completed his master’s through Nazarene Theological Seminary.
Matt grew up nearby in Oskaloosa. “Having only lived in Ottumwa for three and a half years, Ottumwa Leadership Academy offered an incredible opportunity for me to learn, build relationships, and find new places to serve.”
When thinking about the O.L.A. experience so far, Matt shared, “I was greatly impacted by the Human, Community, and Health Services class day. It was encouraging to meet and learn from numerous dedicated and talented people who serve the Ottumwa community every day. I walked away with new relationships and ideas regarding how I can lead my congregation in partnering with others to meet the needs of our neighbors.”
Matt’s top five CliftonStrengths are Analytical, Relator, Strategic, Learner, and Achiever. “Learning more about my strengths has helped me become a more intentional leader, revealed natural talents I can lean upon in my daily work, and has shown me the value of surrounding myself with people who think and lead differently than I do.”
Looking forward to the remainder of the year, Matt stated that he is most looking forward to developing deeper relationships with his classmates. “As we share in meaningful conversations, we will gain a deeper appreciation and commitment to our community.
Matt is married to Brenna – who is originally from Nebraska. He enjoys being outside, all things Star Wars, and cheering on his favorite sports teams.
