In a recent session, participants of the Ottumwa Leadership Academy heard from area educators including principles from Ottumwa High School, Evans Jr. High, and Wilson Elementary, Superintendent Davis Eidhal, Superintendent Joel Pedersen (Cardinal Schools), Dr. Jon Sheldahl from Great Prairie Area Education Agency, as well as Kara Buckallew of Buena Vista and Dr. Marlene Sprouse from Indian Hills Community College. In addition to hearing first hand from these experts, the class was able to take a tour at Ottumwa Job Corps to hear from the students as well as see the facility. The day also included leadership development with Scott Raecker, Executive Director of Character Counts Iowa, who focused on Creating a Culture of Excellence. One participant commented, “It was very interesting to see how the whole system ties in together, I think we are fortunate to have the different systems in place to educate our children. “
