Ottumwa Leadership Academy members participate in team projects that they will work on throughout the curriculum year.
As a team, we ask that you commit to leaving a footprint or positive impact on the issue. In other words, leadership is more than just lip service and intention…it’s commitment and action. As a participant in this program, you are expected to use your collective insight and leadership to help improve the community in which you live and work.
Purpose of Team Structure:
- Understand and work through team dynamics
- Enhance your communication, time and project management skills
- Understand and work with different personality types
- Engage in Community Trusteeship/Social Capital – Moving beyond lip service to action for a pressing community issue
Team Project & Process:
Local organizations and non-profits submit project ideas to Ottumwa Leadership Academy. These community-based initiatives are identified by the organization that would benefit from having the focused attention from a cross-sector team of leaders. Teams will be selected for each project based on their Strengths Assessment results as well as other factors (conflict of interest, team make-up, etc.). The project teams will work with an on-site Champion and are empowered to find the best solution for the issue. The teams have the Academy year to work on their projects and will provide a final presentation at the graduation event in June
